2018 has turned out to be rather interesting for several notable, web-related anniversaries. First, 20 years ago Netscape set in motion the open source software movement – by giving away the source code to its Netscape Communicator browser – and creating Mozilla to support future development around it. Then, 25 years ago was the debut of the NCSA Mosaic Browser, the first popular web browser. Last but certainly not least, 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the landmark antitrust suit filed by the US goverment against Microsoft, for scheming to squeeze out Netscape from the PC market.
